3.Jizo Park

Jizo Park

Scenery featuring Ojizo-sama,
a familiar part of everyday life

The seashore in the Suwa area gives views over the sea with Tsukumi Island piercing the horizon. It is a wonderful space where Ojizo-sama statues and so on stand on a narrow strip beside the roadway. This is Jizo Park. There is quite a variety here, with Ojizo-sama for prayers about low back pain and memorial towers for fish and shellfish, which offers a glimpse of the history of this local community whose lives are intertwined with the sea, making it a very interesting place. People come here every morning to clean it, others make offerings to the deities, and some sit on a bench and look out to sea. It is clear to see that this is an integral part of the lives of the local people. There is something heartwarming about the connection between Ojizo-sama and the local community. And it is also a scene of prayer.

There are memorial towers for shellfish, fish, and crabs, and a little way away, whales.
